Dr. Sweet and our entire team follow procedures recommended by several federal agencies: the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). These measures include: - No-Touch sensor lights
- Gloves and face masks
- Chemical disinfection of counter tops and surfaces
- Sterilization of all equipment before every use
- Disposable materials
We sterilize all reusable equipment, including dental hand pieces. We use an autoclave, a device that kills bacteria and viruses by steam, heat and pressure. The best defense against disease is information. The more you know, the better equipped you are to make wise decisions about your health care. The more you know about our daily procedures and policies, the more comfortable you will feel. Oral Hygiene Why is oral hygiene so important? Adults over 35 lose more teeth to gum diseases, (periodontal disease) than from cavities. Three out of four adults are affected at some time in their life. The best way to prevent cavities and periodontal disease is by doing at least 2 of the following daily: - Brushing properly with an extra-soft tooth brush.
- Using an easy-sliding micro-filament floss.
- Using a tongue scraper.
- Using a professional level rinse (hint: not Listerine).
- Using a Water-Pic or Sonic/Vibrational type tooth brush.
Periodontal disease and decay are both caused by bacterial plaque. Plaque is a colorless film, which sticks to your teeth at the gumline. Plaque constantly forms on your teeth. By thorough daily brushing and flossing you can remove these germs and help prevent periodontal disease. Professional Cleaning Daily brushing and flossing will keep dental calculus to a minimum, but a professional cleaning will remove the mineralized deposits in places your toothbrush and floss have missed. Your visit to our office is an important part of your program to prevent gum disease. Keep your teeth for your lifetime. |
