Your teeth do a lot of hard work, helping you to chew, speak, and function throughout the day. But what happens when a tooth becomes compromised? Cracks, chips, decay, or procedures like root canals can leave a tooth weak and vulnerable to further damage. That's why we offer dental crowns as a strong, natural-looking way to restore your teeth to their former glory.
Ceramic dental crowns are custom-made, tooth-shaped caps that encase your entire tooth to restore its strength, shape, and function. They’re made from high-quality porcelain, known for its strength and durability, while also giving a natural, tooth-like appearance.
Dental crowns can address a variety of concerns, including:
We’ll set you up an appointment with Dr. Nish or Dr. Mahek. They will examine your teeth and discuss your concerns to figure out the best restorative solution for you. We sometimes need to take X-rays to take a closer look at the tooth's root and surrounding bone.
Once you’re feeling comfortable with the decision and have asked your dentist any questions about the procedure, we’ll shave down a significant portion of the tooth to prepare the area for the crown. Don’t let that scare you, you won’t feel a thing! We use local anesthesia to make this step painless. A filling may be placed before the crown is cemented if the tooth requires additional support due to extensive decay or damage.
We’ll then go ahead and take digital impressions of the tooth and surrounding area to create a crown that looks and functions just like the tooth we’re restoring. We know you don’t want to walk around with a weird, shaved-down tooth! Rest assured, we’ll place a temporary crown to keep your tooth looking and functioning normally.
The final step is cementing the permanent crown in place once its ready. Dr. Nish or Dr. Mahek will check the fit, color, and bite to ensure a good fit and functionality.
If your crown has come loose or dislodged, you need to call us right away. The underlying tooth becomes vulnerable to decay, so it’s important we get you in to see Dr. Nish or Dr. Mahek as soon as possible to recent the crown or replace it entirely if it’s lost/damaged. Tip: Avoid chewing on hard foods or objects if you feel your crown is loose, as this could further dislodge it.
